26th FIDUCIA Baden marathon Karlsruhe results, 21.09.2008

Almost 9000 participants competed in sunny, kindly weather at the Karlsruhe marathon (including halfmarathon). The podium in the marathon was taken by the Kenyans Ben Kimwole (2:14:16), Samson Loywapet (2:15:45) and David Mutai (2:21:24). Fastest German was Torsten Matthes in 6th place (2:30:40). In the women’s race the first two places were taken by Kenyans (Irene Cherop, 2:35:56 ahead of Phylis Chelagat Chepkonga, 2:50:19) with German Eve Rauschenberg coming home 3rd (2:57:56).
Almost 6000 runners took part in the halfmarathon and the German men ran fast times: Behind Charles Ngolepus (1:02:48=course record), Tobias Sauter ran a consistent race and finished with a new PR of 1:05:47. Also Benjamin Lindner, who had a rather bad day in the German 10K Road Race Championships last week, could prove his strong shape and also clocked a new PR of 1:06:51. In the women’s halfmarathon the podium was completely taken by Germans (Christine Schleifer, 1:14:53 ahead of Simone Maissenbacher, 1:15:35 and Jenny Breitschmid 1:17:13).
